Gertrude

Formed 99 at the Bull and Gate-in 1997, Gertrude are a dynamic all female band who make angular and unusual hardcore-pop sounds. Described as "dangerous sinister and tuneful" by Rhythm Magazine, Gertrude are an energetic and exciting alternative to mainstream indie boy-rock. Gertrude are never far from a live gig, playing often at local underground and punk venues in Hackney and South London. Some memorable gigs of the year include a Valentines day trip to the 13th Note in Glasgow, and a gig at a women's festival in Paduva in ltaly, as well as playing at The Stoke Newington Street Festival in London. Gertrude have supported Mark Perry's band , A.T.V a couple of times this year, at the Dublin Castle in Camden and at Punk Aid in South End, where they astonished punters with a most unconventional punk set.

Gertrude's releases include the "Dirtywindows" EP which they financed and put out themselves. They have a split single "Knife Edge " which is available on Vinyl from Mother Stoat Records singles club. " Several of Gertrude's tracks feature on compilation c.d.'s including a track on the most recent Snakebite City compilation and Club V's compilation album, "Rage Against The Scene." Gertrude's new TRINGLE, "Pop Psychology" was recorded in May at Southern Studios and produced by Tony Barber, bass player with The Buzzcocks.
